Present Continuous Tense (-iyor)

Formation

The present continuous tense expresses actions happening right now. It's formed by adding -iyor to the verb stem, followed by personal endings.

Pattern: Verb stem + -iyor + personal ending

Personal endings:

-um (I)

-sun (you, informal)

-(no ending) (he/she/it)

-uz (we)

-sunuz (you, formal/plural)

-lar (they)

gel-iyor-um

I am coming

gel (come) + iyor + um (I)

oku-yor-sun

you are reading

oku (read) + yor + sun (you)

gid-iyor

he/she is going

gid (go) + iyor (no personal ending for he/she/it)

Vowel Harmony in -(I)yor

The -(I)yor suffix follows 4-way (I-type) vowel harmony based on the last vowel of the stem:

After e, i → -iyor

After a, ı → -ıyor

After o, u → -uyor

After ö, ü → -üyor
